Khor Ean Ghee






Statement by the artist
"I believe that good watercolour painting should be executed in its traditional form. The finished work should always retain the effect of transparency and fluidity which is unique to this medium."


Born in Penang in 1934, Ean Ghee is currently a senior lecturer and interior designer at the La Salle College of Arts, Singapore and a part-time lecturer at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. He was a founder member of the Singapore Watercolour Society and became the president in 1989. He is a life member of Penang Watercolour Society.

He graduated from the Taiwan National University with B.A degree in Fine Arts in 1961. In 1968, he obtained his Dip. I.D. (London) from the Northern Polytechnic, London, School of Architecture in Interior Design. In 1979, he received his F.B.I.D. (Fellow, British Institute of Interior Design). In 1989, he was elected to Fellowship of the Chartered Society of Designers, England (F.C.S.D.).

He held successful solo exhibitions in Penang (1956), Kuala Lumpur (1964) and Singapore (1977). Besides taking part in art exhibitions in Singapore, he has exhibited extensively in London, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Malaysia. His paintings were also exhibited at the Royal Institute of Watercolour Society, London.

He is the editor of the Singapore Art Society. He received the IBM Art Award in 1988 and Long Service Award for Training Advisory Committee, Vocational and Industrial Training Board, Applied Arts Committee.
